The official 2022-23 season for Alabama basketball kicks off this Thursday, and Southeast Hoop Report is ready to hit the ground running. We’ll be very busy covering some of the most anticipated matchups of the year along with some of the top-tier tournaments throughout the Southeast and Alabama.
Here are a few big matchups to watch for the first half of the season.
Pinson Valley vs Selma (12 pm): Nov. 5 - @ Park Crossing
Pinson Valley comes in as the number one team to watch in 6A basketball with the return of some of the most elite guards in their region with senior Terry Conner Jr. and junior Caleb White. This team has some exciting pieces and is definitely worth a watch to start the season.
Northridge vs Oak Mountain: Nov. 10 - @ Oak Mountain
Baker vs Grissom: Nov. 12 - South Memorial Parkway Classic @ Grissom High
The number one player in the state for the ℅ 2023 & Alabama commit RJ Johnson, with elite guards Izzy Miles & DJ Thompson, faces off against the number one player for the ℅ 2024 Labaron Philon.
Huffman vs Hoover: Nov. 15 - @ Hoover High
The 6A runner-ups Huffman Vikings led by travel to Hoover for what should be a good matchup as the top of ℅ 2025 meet-up. 6-foot-2 guard Peyton Wiggins takes on top-ranked 6-foot-3 guard Salim London & 6-foot-7 big DeWayne Brown II.
Plainview vs Westminster Christian: Nov. 15 - @ Plainview
Highly recruited SF Chase McCarty faces off against the duo of 6-foot-5 Forward Luke Smith and 6-foot Guard Jonah Williams.
Jacksonville vs Spain Park: Nov. 15 - @ Spain Park
The defending 4A champions Jacksonville travels to Hoover as South Alabama commit John Broom faces off against Troy commit Zach Gray and big Sam Wright. Broom won’t be alone with returning seniors Caden & Camren Johnson, both elite guards.
Sparkman vs James Clemens: Nov.18 - @ James Clemens
Cullman vs Paul Bryant: Nov. 29 - @ Paul Bryant
The defending 6A champs travel to Paul Bryant for a solid non-region matchup.
Huntsville vs Buckhorn: Nov. 29 - @ Buckhorn
Ja’Mari Arnold, Caleb Harrison, and Simon Walker travel to Buckhorn to face the young core of Caleb Holt and Jeremiah Wilson.
Mountain Brook vs Vestavia Hills: Dec. 6 - @ Vestavia
Haleyville vs Ramsay: Dec. 9 - @ Ramsay High
Haleyville travels to 5A runner-ups Ramsay Rams, who have a huge chip on their shoulder from losing to Lee-Huntsville yet again in the championship. After the outcome from last season, Troy commit Kerrington Kiel is locked in more than ever to make it back to the big dance.
