The travel season has officially come to an end, and with my latest check-in, I reached out to an Alabama guard who’s taken his stock to the next level this summer.

6-foot-3 guard Drake James, from Haleyville, AL has woken up many specter's eyes this summer, proving that his game is something that shouldn’t not taken lightly.

For his junior season James averaged 22.9 PPG, 4.8 R, 4.2 A, 3.3 S and led his team on a great run in the 4A state playoffs, leading them to the final four.

“The travel season has been good for me,” James said. “I have played against some really good competition and gotten some good exposure. I also had a really good June with my school team.”

James plays with great patience on the court and one can tell that his IQ is elite with his shot selection and his overall approach to the game. His handles are solid, maneuvering through the defense, and the shot from the three is flawless. His court vision stands out the most; James can draw in the defense and has excellent timing with his passes.

James says that he’s have gotten a lot better in certain aspects

of my game and there have been solid improvements over the summer.

“My outside shot and my pace of play have been two things I have been working on and I have seen great improvement in both,” he said. “I also feel like I have been guarding the ball better as the summer has progressed.”

James has received an offer from Garden City CC in Kansas, and has been receiving interest from colleges at every level.

Due to a stellar performance at Marquee Hoops’ live period in Hoover, James picked an offer from the University of Mobile.

“I am thankful for every coach that reaches out and I hope I can find my home for the next 4 years during my senior year,” James said.

James is heading into his senior year with one mission, is that’s to win a state title and anything less than that is unacceptable for him.

“We reached the Final Four this year which was great, but we can win it all this year if we buy in and work every single day,” he said. “I Would love nothing more than to end my high school career with a blue map.”
